    Social problems among young people

The recent trend of increasing social problems among teenagers is being concerned by society. Every day when you read the newspaper, juvenile delinquency such as pick pocketing and bullying are not at all difficult to find. In fact, these two delinquencies are the most common and urgent problems facing young people nowadays. Therefore, in this essay, I am going to examine how these problems affect the teenagers and give some suggestions to raise their awareness the problems.

Pick pocketing is the most serious and common crime committed by teenagers. It is especially serious in supermarkets like Wellcome and convenient store like Circle K. As usually teenagers go pick pocketing because of their greediness or to satisfy their material wants, most of them feel regretful when being caught. However, there are also extreme cases that some of the teenagers stole in the stores and then sold the goods for money.

As the result of a moment of pride and satisfaction, pick pocketing is common among young people. Unfortunately, they often neglect the serious consequence brought by delinquency. Therefore, the school should always remind the students that pick pocketing will brought a criminal record which is a bad mark for life that can never be cleared. On the other hand, the police public relation department may also hold some talks and exhibitions, for example once a year to warn students not to try because of just a moment of satisfaction. In fact, it is really not a worthy thing to do at all.

Bullying is another serious social problem found among young people. Bullies are usually boys but sometimes even girls. They get pleasure from kicking and hitting their schoolmates who are smaller, younger and unable to defend themselves. Most of the time the bullies work in groups as gangs and thus the victims are seriously hurt and even go to hospital with broken bones and bad cuts.

Violence has a direct relation with bullying. As a result, many movies, TV programmes and comics that promote aggressive behaviours are being accused as the major reason of bullying. In fact, cases have been found that some students use ‘Kung Fu’ to attack other students. Therefore, I think the society should concern about the flood of violent movies and comics. The government may also impose more restrictions on the broadcasting and publishing of these media products. Meanwhile, as most bullying happen inside school, more prefects should be responsible to monitor students’ behaviour during break time. Moreover, the punishments for bullying should be more severe so as to put down the trend.

All in all, social problems among young people are more and more serious nowadays. Pick pocketing and bullying are two major problems that the school must deal with. Therefore, ethic education to the students is needed. We may also have to tell them about the consequence of the delinquencies. By these measures, the students may get more aware of these problems and thus prevent them happen in our school.
